Capitol Reef
If a Capitol Reef go-er were asked about the area's distinctive attributes, the answer is very likely to include 'color' and 'shape'. Or it would, if you asked me. A color pattern in ample supply at Capitol Reef, is red to reddish brown to purplish, produced by small amounts of hematite (which is simply rust or iron oxide) in the rocks. As for shape, Capitol Reef is characterized by what is called the 'Waterpocket Fold', a nearly 100-mile long, right-angled fold in the earth's crust, a seemingly impregnable natural wall in an area of otherwise horizontal layers. Beneath pockets of clouds drifting across a blue firmament, I found both color and shape of Capitol Reef to stand out magnificently.
