Topaz Lake
It was a cold day in March. In a fruitless attempt to duck an oncoming snow storm and cross the Sierra Nevada with a 27 foot RV, I drove past this beautifully pastel colored Topaz Lake. Formed by diverting waters from the West Walker River into this basin that previously had contained a natural lake, it is actually an artificial reservoir. The image exudes a tranquility that makes it hard to imagine these waters heavily crowded with boaters, water-skiiers, campers and fishermen, as it is said to during the season. Probably just as well.
